Masako Osako

Masako M. Osako (大迫政子) is the Executive Director of the International Longevity Center (ILC) Global Alliance, a partnership of 15 ILCs from around the world (www.ilc-alliance.org). Over the past 10 years, as a member of the executive team, Masako has guided the ILC allowing it to fulfill its mission to promote the positive aspects of ageing and longevity while supporting societies across the world as they adapted to the realities of their ageing populations. Her activities have encompassed the areas of research administration, advocacy and communication.

Masako has also been a leading member of the UTokyo alumni community in the United States for over a decade. She was a founder of Satsuki-kai America (UTokyo Alumnae Association) and served as its first president from 2010-2016. While she remains active in this organization, her involvement with alumni associations has expanded to include advising/assisting other UTokyo alumni associations in the United States, particularly with respect to networking and events planning. She also served as President of Chicago Akamon kai from 2019 to 2020. In these roles, she has taken a special interest in promoting the interests and involvement of UTokyo undergraduates and is very involved in the Taiken program.  Masako firmly believes that overseas alumni groups can play a critical role in creating a global UTokyo community based on “meaningful dialogue and mutual trust/respect” [taiwa to kyoukan] as envisioned by President T. Fujii and has used her role as the head of administration at Friends of UTokyo to help realize these goals.

Formerly a student of the University of Tokyo (Economics Department), Dr. Osako received her B.A. in Economics from Harvard University, her MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago, and her PhD in Sociology from Northwestern University. Her broad professional experience has included banking, university teaching, and non-profit administration.
