Atsushi Tsuda

Atsushi Tsuda: 1987 Ph.D. in Agriculture (fisheries science) from University of Tokyo, 1988-96 assistant professor and 1996-2003 chief of biological oceanography section, Hokkaido National Fisheries Research Institute, Fisheries Agency; 2003-2011 associate professor, plankton laboratory, Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute, University of Tokyo; since 2011 Professor of the same laboratory. 2015-2019 director of Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute, University of Tokyo; 2019-present vice-president of the University of Tokyo. He has served as vice-president of the Oceanographic Society of Japan and chairman of biological committee of PICES (North Pacific Marine Science Organization) 2011-2013. His scientific interests are ecology of zooplankton (feeding, life cycle and behavior), biogeochemical cycles in the surface and mesopelagic layers, and effects of iron in oceanic ecosystems.
