At the Board Meeting held on May 9, 2016, FUTI Advisory Committee Members, Nobuko Sakurai and Fumiko Tamura were elected as Board Members. Ms. Sakurai will continue her duties as a member of Scholarship Review Committee. Working with the Treasurer (Dr. Kuwama), Dr. Tamura will focus on financial reporting, tax and regulatory matters.
Nobuko Sakurai (桜井信子) received her BA in French Studies from the University of Tokyo. After working at Air France in Tokyo for six years, she was employed at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. while also receiving her MA in French Studies from American University. She has also worked for seven years at the Japan Economic Institute in Washington, D.C., an affiliate organization of the Japanese Government, writing monthly business reports. From 1995 to 2000 she worked in Tokyo at a Japanese company, Forma Corp, where she planned and organized financial forums in Japan for U.S. and French firms. Upon relocating to New York she continued to work part-time from New York for Forma until 2006. She has served as President of the Nippon Club Women’s Association and co-President of the U.S.-Japan Women’s Association, at which she is currently an advisor. She is a member of the Advisory Committee of Lotus Circle of the Asia Foundation, an honorary advisor for the Japanese Business Women’s Association in New York, and a member of the International Visitors Committee at the Cosmopolitan Club in New York.For further details, please visit https://www.friendsofutokyo.org/about-us/board-members/nobuko-sakurai/
Fumiko Tamura, Ph.D. (田村史子) is the Director of Transfer Pricing at News Corp, a U.S. multinational media company headquartered in New York with global revenues of over $8 billion. She is responsible for leading transfer pricing planning initiatives and ensuring global transfer pricing compliance of the company. Prior to joining News Corp, she was a Senior Manager in the Global Transfer Pricing Group at Deloitte in New York. Dr. Tamura is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensed and registered in New York. Dr. Tamura received her BA in economics from the University of Tokyo in 1999. She came to the U.S. as a recipient of the “Japan-IMF Fellowship for Advanced Studies,” and received her M.A. and Ph. D. in economics, both from Brown University, in 2001 and 2006, respectively.
