FUTI FIRESIDE CHAT SERIES- 2Title: How Can The University of Tokyo Expand Its Influence Globally?[東大が世界的に影響力を拡大していくためには？]Aug 9, 2024, Friday, 8.30pm-9.30pm+ (EDST) [Saturday, Aug 10, 9.30am~10.30am+, Japan] ONLINEFriends of UTokyo is pleased to present this online dialogue featuring three distinguished alumni: Professor Iwao Ojima, Mr. Ko-Yung Tung and Ms. Eri Furusawa. Dr. Ojima is an internationally renowned scientist and the Distinguished Professor of Chemistry at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Prof. Ko-Yung Tung is Lecturer on Law at Harvard Law School, was the Senior Vice President of the World Bank and partner at major international law firms. Ms. Eri Furusawa is an HR&A professional, an urban planner, and supports public- and private-sector clients on issues of equitable governance, inclusive community engagement, and climate change. Prof. Geeta Mehta will chair this event with Dr. Masako Osako facilitating the optional social gathering section. (All bios are at this page).This event is part of a series created to bring together UTokyo international alumni for encouraging dialogues among UTokyo alumni and friends.Abstract:The University of Tokyo is committed to serving the global public as outlined in the University charter. Under the leadership of the former President Gonokami in 2017, the University of Tokyo created the Future Society Initiatives (FSI) and has undertaken a variety of measures, including “the expansion of diversity and inclusiveness, the international visibility of UTokyo's potential, and the fostering of human resources capable of leading GX (green transformation)." Under the leadership of the current President, Prof. Fujii, the University has launched an initiative to establish a “College of Design” (tentative name) as part of its efforts to "create a model university for the 21st Century". 先生は国際的に著名な音声認識研究者でおられますが、２０１３〜２０１９年の間TTICの学長を勤められました。最近出版された著書、『AI時代の大学と社会—アメリカでの学長経験から』を中心に、AI時代に国際化を目指している日本の大学が、どう対処するべきかそして何が出来るのかをご自身の学長経験に基づいてお話しして下さいます。皆様、是非御参加ください。お友達、ご家族の参加も大歓迎です。

古井貞熙／著『AI時代の大学と社会—アメリカでの学長経験から』
筆者は、アメリカのシカゴで、AI（人工知能）の研究と教育を中心とする、博士課程だけの大学院大学の学長を6年間務めた。その経験を基に、アメリカと日本の大学と社会の違いを比較しながら、AI時代のグローバル化された世界で、日本の大学と社会が直面している危機に警告を発し、新たに発展するための提言を行っている。

昭43東大・工・計数卒。昭45同大学院修士課程了。同年NTT電気通信研究所入社。昭53-54ベル研究所客員研究員。昭61 NTT基礎研究所第四研究室長。平1 NTTヒューマンインタフェース研究所音声情報研究部長。平3同研究所古井特別研究室長。平9東京工業大学大学院情報理工学研究科計算工学専攻教授。平23同名誉教授、同グローバルリーダー教育員特任教授。平29同栄誉教授。平25 TTIC(Toyota Technological Institute at Chicago)学長。令1 TTIC理事長。令2国立情報学研究所研究総主幹、令2東京大学Beyond AI研究所アドバイザー。工博。音声認識、話者認識、音声知覚、音声合成などの研究に従事。科学技術庁長官賞、文部科学大臣表彰、NHK放送文化賞、大川賞受賞、紫綬褒章受章。文化功労者。IEEE、ISCA(International Speech Communication Association)、電子情報通信学会、日本音響学会などより功績賞、業績賞、論文賞など受賞。IEEE、米国音響学会、ISCAおよび電子情報通信学会Fellow。ISCA、APSIPA (Asia Pacific Signal and Information Processing Association)および日本音響学会会長、国内外の学会誌の編集長など歴任。
