Giving to Friends of UTokyo, Inc.
FUTI’s commitment to attain its purposes to promote educational exchange programs and research collaborations between UTokyo and its friend institutions both in the United States and Japan can only be sustained with the continued support of FUTI by its network of alumni and friends. Your generous support would be greatly appreciated. As for our latest effort that shows the generous giving spirit by many Friends of UTokyo, please click here.
FUTI is exempt from the Federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Your donations to FUTI are deductible from your U.S. income in accordance with section 170 of the Code.
Since the first fundraising effort launched in the fall of 2009, the revenue sources of FUTI have been the dividends from the Trust Fund established by generosity of Shintech, Inc. (a U.S. subsidiary of ShinEtsu Chemical Co. Ltd), and donations from individuals. We are most grateful to Shintech and these donors.
We have recently introduced PayPal’s web-based online donation system, which you may find more convenient than to mail a check.
If you are willing to make a sizable gift, or in a position to influence your organization’s philanthropic programs, please consider establishing an endowment fund in FUTI .

IRA Distribution Gifts: If you have an IRA (Individual Retirement Account) and are of age 70½ or older, you may take advantage of the IRA charitable rollover provision, which allows you to make tax-free distributions of up to US$100,000 from your IRA to qualified charitable organizations like FUTI. Charitable distributions from an IRA can be used to satisfy the annual required minimum distribution (RMD). For more information, click here.
Securities Gifts: Securities such as stocks, bonds or mutual funds that have been held for at least 12 months can be charitably donated. It is a great way to maximize your contribution while offering significant tax benefits. For more information, please click here.
Create your Endowment Fund or Donate to FUTI’s Endowment Fund: An endowment is a donation that creates an investment fund with your name （or any name of your choice, for instance, your family member）attached, or a donation that is poured into FUTI’s Endowment Fund. FUTI will spend every year only the interest or dividend earned by the fund to support FUTI’s activities, while keeping, in principle, its principal intact. Establishing your own endowment fund in FUTI will be a very gratifying way to support FUTI for many years to come. For more information, click here.
Create your Trust Fund to support FUTI for many years to come: Shintech, Inc. has established a Trust Fund whose quarterly dividends or distributions are donated to FUTI as cash donations. Like an endowment fund, it is a great way to support FUTI for over many years. The difference is that the owner of a trust fund is the donor, whereas an endowment fund belongs to FUTI. For more information, please contact us here.
Planned Giving: Planned giving will be a very effective way to ensure that FUTI has the future resources. It will be a great way to leave your legacy through FUTI. For further information, please click here.
